The DeVos family has built their legacy on the principal of giving back. In Michigan, the DeVos name is among the most respected when it comes to philanthropy. The family recently became transparent, when they let it be known that they have given more than 1.2 billion dollars during their lifetime. That’s little compared to what Forbes says they have given. In October, Forbes revealed that total lifetime giving of the DeVos Family in 2014 was as much a $94 million. This ranks them 20th on their list of Top 50 givers.
The Family itself has been very particular about who they give to. In 2013 nearly half their giving was to educational causes, totaling nearly $50 million dollars. Another 27 percent to health and community causes. The family is also concerned about churches or faith-based groups, giving more than 13 percent to such causes.
