On September 9th, 2017 The Academy of Art University hosted its’ 21st runway showcase in Skylight Clarkson Square. Five lines were produced for women and two were debuted focused on men. Designers with various backgrounds came together to produce looks that represented their history. The graduate director of fashion at the University seemed very pleased about the looks that crossed the runway, stating at one point that, “these are the designers who will inspire and lead the next generation of creatives.”
The Academy of Art University is a school that has been around since 1929. It was established in San Francisco, California, and their goal is to: “prepare aspiring professionals in the fields of design, communication and the arts by delivering excellent undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificate and portfolio development programs.” Students are able to pursue degree programs in over 25 different subjects, including the obvious fashion as well as many other areas, like architecture and dancing.
The Academy of Art University offers both on campus and online degree programs, providing students with the flexibility to follow their dreams regardless of where they live. In fact, students at the school represent a total of 112 countries from around the world. Diversity is clearly something valued here. These students have been participating in New York Fashion Week twice a year since 2005, producing some very unique outfits.
This school is privately funded, and has the potential to house over 12,000 students. They are the largest accredited private art and design school in the nation. Alumni have gone on the become actors, and have even starred on shows such as Project Runway. The Academy of Art University also owns and operates the Academy of Art University Automobile Museum, which Forbes has valued at being worth over $70 million. This collection has over 200 vintage cars.
