CEO Gregory Aziz Gives Back to the Hamilton Community

On June 1912, Sir John Gibson founded National Steel Car and his company has had many achievements over the years of fabricating steel freight rail cars. They initially used to also manufacture chassis and bodies for trucks that were later used in the First and Second World Wars. Today, National Steel Car has become North America’s leading source for railroad freight cars, tank cars, boxcars, freight car parts and components for over a hundred years.

National Steel Car is based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and is currently led by Gregory James Aziz, serving as the chairman and chief executive officer. Greg Aziz had purchased the company from its former owner back in 1994 after accumulating enough from his days as an investment banker in New York, NY. His leadership qualities have driven the company to its current success, they now produce more than 12,000 railroad freight cars annually and remain as one of Canada’s few remaining rolling stock companies that is active.

National Steel Car have received worldwide recognition for their engineering innovations in the industry and high-quality products. National Steel Car is the only manufacturing and engineering company in the industry to be ISO 9001:2008 certified. They have consistently performed well above industry standards and are also multi-winners of the annual TTX SECO awards. Each year, the freight car company and its 2,000 employees give back to their community of Hamilton by initiating large-scale food drives for the local food banks. They have sponsored many businesses in the area including the Hamilton Opera, Salvation Army, The United Way and other important local charities.

Greg James Aziz was born in London, Ontario, on April 30, 1949. He attended the University of Western Ontario and majored in Economics. His father owned a company called Affiliated Foods, they were a major a supplier of fresh foods that were distributed all across Eastern Canada and the whole United States. The fresh foods were imported from the countries of Europe, South America and Central America. Greg Aziz had worked there after graduating, up until he moved to New York City to pursue investment banking during the 1980s.
